Yahoo SEO Tips and Bing SEO Tips

According to the latest data released by Internet analytics Score 28.2 percent of the search engine market share in the US now belongs to Yahoo and Bing.

In Europe, Google still reigns supreme with its unbelievably large market share. In the UK, for example, Google holds 89.33 percent of the search market. However, this number signifies a drop in market share for Google. Bing's share, on the other hand, has risen to 5 percent, making it the second largest search engine in the UK, with Yahoo a close third.

What do these numbers mean to website owners? They stand for an increasing importance in the field of search engine optimization to take account of three different search engines. If your target audience is in the US, you are potentially ignoring almost a third of your market by not optimizing your site for Bing and Yahoo. While both search engines are often overlooked when it comes to SEO, the companies have released SEO guidelines to help website owners to score well in their search results. Here is a short overview of the most important ranking factors in Bing and Yahoo.

Bing SEO Tips
  • Bing developers at Microsoft recommend the following to achieve a higher ranking in their search results.
  •
  • Use keywords in the text content of your web page. These keywords must be terms that users would enter into the search engine when looking for the type of information that your site provides.
  •
  • Limit the size of each web page by sticking to one topic per page. Text-only pages needn't be more than 150 kB in file size.
  •
  • Each web page must be linked to by at least one static text link. The reason for this is that static links are easy to index by search engine bots. Javascript links can't be indexed.
  •
  • Avoid putting important information in between images, or that information might not be indexed properly. If you would like your company name or address to be indexed, include it in the text of the web page. Search engine bots can't read logos.
Yahoo SEO Tips

Here are the most important factors that influence web page ranking in Yahoo's search results:
  • the number of external websites that link to the web page,
  • the content of the page,
  • and the update frequency of the page.
Yahoo also warns website owners that page rankings can change by factors outside of their control, namely the indexing and adding of new websites and changes to the search engines algorithms.

The complicated workings of search engine algorithms can result a few headaches along the way, especially for those who are new to the field of SEO. Luckily, because of the recent alliance between Bing and Yahoo, any positive changes that you make for either search engine should yield positive results in both!  At the end of the day, just like Google, these two search engines are looking for good SEO content and writing along with backlinks from reputable sites, so focus on developing both and you're likely to succeed with all of them.
